MAORI LAND COURT
Puketapu Block Sale Bearing V (N.Z. Press Association) TAUMARUNUI. May 17. A three-day sitting of the Maori Land Court was opened at Taumarunui yesterday with the hearing of an application by the proprietors of the Puketapu 3A Block Incorporated to sell its assets and properties to the Kauri Timber Company, Ltd., of Australia, whose principal business office is in Auckland.
The Judge of the Court is Judge G. O'Malley, and this will be his last sitting at Taumarunui, as he will be retiring at the end of May. Sir Wilfrid Sim, Q.C., for the Puketapu Corporation, said there was no objection to the confirmation of the agreement. The sale was a wise decision.
Offers had been made by other concerns but the offers had faded out and the question of the assets being sold by tender was not worth consideration. Sir Wilfrid Sim said the Puketapu Corporation had reached the position that it could not successfully develop its business as could the purchasers. The sale proposed in the agreement was very satisfactory to the Puketapu block.
