COMPULSORY UNIONISM

Seamen’s Union Supports F.O.L.

Support for the attitude of the Federation of Labour’s national conference towards the Government’s Intention to introduce legislation abolishing compulsory unionism was given at the monthly stopwork meeting of the Lyttelton Seamen's Union on Tuesday. After the meeting a collection was taken up to help 'he Labour Party candidate. Mr A. A. Adcock, in his campaign in the Hurunui by-election. A resolution passed by the meeting said: “That this meeting of seamen endorses the recommendations of the Federation of Labour’s national conference and appeals to those affiliated to procure some official document whereby any trade unionist employed can produce such a document on request. “It is the intention of the Seamen’s Union to recommend to its members not to work with, or be associated with, non-unionists in spite of the legislation that the Government may pass against compulsory unionism.”
