ELECTRICITY IN THE HOME
Tuition For Girls
Envisaged
“We have big plans for the future of this organisation. We even hope to teach and lecture to schoolgirls eventually,” said Mrs G. M. Samson, vice-president of the Electrical Association for Women, last evening. “We think that later on we will be able to teach senior schoolgirls how to make the best use of electrical appliances in the home, which appliances give the best value, and how to use electricity economically,” she said.
At the forthcoming National conference in Wellington, the possibilities of giving women a proficiency diploma when they have completed a course of instruction. will be discussed. The president of the Christchurch branch (Mrs A. Schumaker) and the secretary (Mrs T. H. Ogden) will attend the, conference.
A course in elementary electrical repairs will begin at the Christchurch Technical College this month, Mrs Samson said. The course would be available only to members of the branch, and would comprise six weekly lectures, each of two hours.
During the evening members heard a talk about television by Mr G. Reid. He explained the workings of television sets in New Zealand, comparing them with overseas models, and defined technical terms used in connexion with television. He also explained the differences in television aerials and the problems encountered in New Zealand centres with reception of sound and vision.
