FIJIAN CHOIR FOR NAPIER
Performances In Other Centres
(N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER, May 17.
The Napier Thirty Thousand Club is bringing the noted Adi Cakobau Girls’ College choir from Fiji to appear at its Mardi Gras celebrations in Napier next Christmas. The choir will be accompanied by the headmistress of the college. Miss F. Charlton, a New Zealander, and its Fijian choirmistress. Performances are being arranged for many other centres, including Hastings. Palmerston North, Wanganui. New Plymouth, Rotorua, Tauranga, Auckland, Gisborne. Wairoa, Waipukurau and perhaps Masterton. Financial assistance for the £4OOO tour is being given by the New Zealand and Fijian Governments and the Fijian Visitors’ Bureau, a Govern-ment-backed travel agency. The choir was last year filmed for American and 8.8. C. television, and Earl Mountbatten on a recent Fijian visit instigated arrangements for a proposed European tour.
