BURNSIDE

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. May 17. The yarding of fat cattle at Burnside today—3s4, against 485 last week—was too many for requirements. There were very few good quality cattle in the entry, and a large part of the yarding was of cattle little above store class

There was a fair yarding of cows and heifers. On the average ox could be quoted down by £3 to £4 per head. Cows and heifers were also selling at lower rates. With an Increase of 300 in the offering of fat sheep, it was surprising to find values for most classes improved on the rates ruling over the last two or three markets. Demand from the outset was keener than for several weeks, and naturally prices were given a boost. Hoggets and young wethers were in short supply and for these classes a rise of 4s to 5s was general. The total entry of adult sheep was 2409. Only a handful of top fat lambs were yarded, and values Improved by 4s to 5s for this claas. The shortage of heavy lambs possibly helped in the improvement of hogget prices. Medium and lighter lambs were on a par.
