Approval By Board

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, May 17. The construction of a median strip in Blenheim road was approved in principle by the National Roads Board when it met today to discuss masters arising out of the recent visit by members of the National Roads Board to Canterbury. Westland and Nelson. The assistant Director of Reading (Mr A G. Begg) said that the District Commissioner of Works, Christchurch, was preparing plans and estimates.

The request by the Christchurch City Council for a grade separation at the Moorhouse avenue-Colombo street intersection was considered. It was decided to advise the council that channelling of the intersection was being carried otre. The board believed that this would improve conditions considerably.

“After reasonable trial it may be necessary to install traffic signals,” said Mr C. N Johnson, secretary of the board. “At present, expenditure of £lOO,OOO on an underpass cannot be justified It is believed that (he cost would be nearly £200.000 — perhaps more.”
