Transport Policy
Sir.—l concur with Tom Bryce's suggestion that road
transport not co-operating with the railway should be pruned back or closed down J The railways should then, show increased earnings and ] it would then be possible to fully dieselise the system and thus reduce running costs and give a speedier and cheaper service. After all, Great Britain is dieselising her railways, and increased traffic is resulting. At present we are spending £25.000.000 per annum on roading, and some of this i money could be profitably' transferred to the Working Railways Account and some return would then be seen for our money.—Yours, etc., DIESEL, Nelson, May 18. 19614
