Rates
Sir, —I noticed in “The Press” today that the Minister of Works said rates "are a legal deduction of income tax.” "I pay them with pleasure.” he said. That only applies to the self-employed who do cl atm rents, rates and insurance as rebates. Can all the rest of the people claim those privileges—the workers. the old age pensioners? If so. the Government would be more embarrassed than it is today and we will all pay rates, etc, with pleasure. —Yours, etc, T. H. BRITMEAD. May 16, 1961.
