Laos
Sir,—For an ordinary citizen trying to find some way out of world chaos. I did not get much assistance from Monday’s editorial on the Geneva Conference. One must not expect anything good to come through the i poisoned atmosphere of Geneva after futile and stupid disarmament conferences. This source of information appears to be directed to] give politicians an opportunity of weaving a web of lies| over our faces. In fact one] does not quite knew whether we should continue to make ourselves ridiculous “fighting communism” or turning our] pens to fighting American l imperialism. It is obvious that American policy over Cuba was stupid and I feel the same about both Laos and South Vietnam. It is time that the American Vice-President ceased talking unimpressive nonsense and drafted a plan to uplift the peasants of South-east Asia, including the Philippines.— Yours, etc., RALPH S. WHEELER. 1 Timaru, May 15. 1961.
