Sir William Holford
Prrlessor Sir William Holford, who has been invited by the City Council to report on the site for a town hall, has been professor of town (planning at the University of (London since 1948. i He was born in South (Airier in 190" and studied architecture at the Liverpool School of Architecture. He was appointed Lever professor of civic design at Liver.pool University in 1936. ! He was president of the British Town Planning Institute in 1953-54, president of I the Royal Institute of British (Architects, 1960-61. and has (been chairman of the ad'vlsory committee on buildings of historic and architectural interest since 1952. Sir William Holford reported to the Corporation of .the City of London on the rebuilding of the area near St. Paul’s Cathedral; was consultant to the Australian Goviernment on the future of Canberra as the Federal capital; was consultant to the (city of Pretoria; and -was (assessor for the Toronto city (hall and square and for the (pilot plan for Brasilia. He was a planning coni suitant to the Corporation of ' the City of London, held a (similar position with the .County of Cambridge, and was at one time chief technical officer of the British Ministry of Town and Country Planning.
