OPEN TENNIS TOURNAMENTS
Opposition By Australia
(N.Z P. A.-Renter—Copyright) MELBOURNE, May 16 The Lawn Tennis Association of Australia last night opposed the introduction of open tennis tournaments. Australia’s delegates will be instructed to vote against open tournaments at the annual meeting of the International Lawn Tennis Federation in Stockholm in July. The decision is a turnabout, as last year the association voted in favour of a trial period for open competition between amateurs and professionals. Australia’s Davis Cup captain, Mr H. Hopman. said the Australian vote in Stockholm would have a decided influence on many other countries.
