Golf FINE ROUND BY JONES
65 At Napier
(N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER, May 16. The Hawke’s Bay golf captain, S. G. Jones (Hastings) yesterday went round the Napier Golf Club's Waiohiki course in a scorching 65 seven under scratch. It was the outstanding round produced yesterday by New Zealand’s top amateur golfers who practised for the Freyberg Rose Bowl tournament which will begin on Thursday. Jones’s 65 came after an even more remarkable 64 on Saturday. Overcast skies and light rain made it likely today that “placings” will be allowed during the tournament, and that players could be permitted to wipe their ball and place it, instead of hitting it as it lies. The greens are expected to be in excellent condition, but mud may trouble competitors along the fairways.
