Prospecting In Queensland
IN ZP.A -Reuter—Cor/uright) BRISBANE. May 16. One of the world’s biggest mining companies has been granted prospecting rights over 1457 souare miles in the Taroom-Gayndah area of Queensland. The area. 250 miles northwest of Brisbane, will be searched for iron ore. The Mines Minister (Mr Ernest Evans), announced last nieht that the prospecting rights had been granted to Enterprise Exploration Company. Pty., Ltd.. a wholly-owned subsidiary of Consolidated Zinc. Pty.. Ltd. Mr Evans said recent investigation by the company had suggested the possibility of an appreciable tonnage of low-grade iron bearing material. Drilling would begin soon to obtain preliminary indications of dimensions and grade. Government mining experts are hoping that the Taroom-Gayndah deposits could lead eventually to an iron and steel industry in Queensland. B.A.C. Subsidiary. The British Aircraft Corporation has announced the formation of a subsidiary company in Australia, with a capital of £BO,OOO.
