(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, May 16. Marquis de Courtauld, raced by the New Zealand owner. Mr M. Moodabe, and trained by a former New Zealander, J. McDonald, easily won the First Maiden Plate at Geelong, about 45 miles from Melbourne, today. Marquis de Courtauld took charge entering the straight and beat Cleat and Gratification. Marquis de Courtauld was bought in New Zealand by Tulloch’s trainer. T. Smith. Before coming to McDonald at Caulfield. Marquis de Courtauld was placed in three races in Sydney. Mr Moodabe has raced horses successfully for many years, including Prince Courtauld. McDonald prepared the former brilliant New Zealand stayer Mainbrace.
