Less Confident Note On Sharemarket
After Monday’s confident start to the week’s trading, the sharemarket was hesitant yesterday. Seven rises and nine falls were recorded among the New Zealand issues traded. New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative B preference shares sold at 18s 6d, compared with 21s 9d on May 1. The first preference shares sold at 19s 6d on Monday. Tekau Knitwear, which fell Is 6d last week, dropped a further Is to 31s. N.Z. Insurance and South British Insurance shares were both firmer. Maple Furnishings, ex dividend of Is 2d, sold only 6d below the cum dividend price. Other rises and falls by New Zealand shares were small. Colonial Sugar recovered further to sell at £72, the top price they reached last month. B.H.P. were 6d up at 65s 6d. Bank of N.S.W. were 5s down at £29 ss. Other rises and falls in overseas domiciled shares were minor. There were nine rises and six fails in this section.
