Hockey INDIANS’ MATCH

Admission Charges

Admission charges to English Park for the game between the touring Indian hockey team and Canterbury, on June 17, were confirmed last evening at a meeting of the mangement committee of the Canterbury Hockey Association. The price for reserved seats on the main stand will be 10s, with no concession for children and for the uncovered stand 7s 6d will be charged. The convenor of the special sub-committee concerned with the Indian game (Mr E. D. Bennett) said the use of the additional stand would provide an “intermediary price” for those who did not wish to pay 10s for a stand seat. Charges for the embankment and enclosure will be 5s for adults and 2s for children. Appreciation It was agreed to thank the Canterbury Football Association for agreeing to matches earlier on June 17 to enable soccer players to see the ndian-Canterbury game. The hockey association will finish competition games early on June 3, the day of the soccer match between Canterbury and the English team. Colts’ Tournament The dates for the southern zone colts’ tournament were tentatively set as August 3. 4 and 5, subject to the availability of hotel accommodation. North-South Game A letter from the New Zealand Hockey Association asking for applications for the North versus South game (probably in September) was received. The association agreed to apply for the game to be held in Christchurch. “I don’t see what a great deal of good the North-South game is going to do us," said Mr A. McCrorie. Supporting the application the chairman (Mr B. Lloyd) said there was a certain amount of prestige attached to the game. Jellicoe Park It was decided to write to the Christchurch City Council complaining of the encroachment of cars on the hockey field at Jellicoe Park during Rugby matches when hockey was not being played. A letter was received from the New Brighton club which voiced its disapproval of the damage cars were causing to the hockey field. A copy of the letter to the City Council will be sent to the Canterbury Rugby Football Union.
