BRIGGS ROAD DRAIN
Parents Complain Of Danger
An open drain alongside Briggs road between Clearbrook street and Marshland road was a danger to young children, said a petition from Briggs road residents considered by the Christchurch Drainage Board last evening. Fast and heavy traffic made it dangerous for their children who crossed over to use the footpath on the other side of the road and then had to recross the road to reach the school and the shoos, the petitioners said. There was a good footpath on the south side of the road, the works committee told the board. A request for piping of the drain was received in July, 1959. but declined. As a result of the request the board established a policy whereby the piping of roadside drains was done in the order of a list of priorities supplied by the local authorities. Briggs road drain did not appear in a list of priorities supplied by the Waimairi County Council. Ambulance Grant. The Christchurch Drainage Board agreed last evening to renew its grant of 30gns to the St. John Ambulance Association this year.
