M. J. Skelton In Hospital

The Riccarton apprentice. M. J. Skelton, was admitted to the Ashburton Hospital yesterday afternoon with Injuries suffered when Candida fell and rolled on him in the birdcage at the Ashburton racecourse. Skelton’s condition last evening was reported to be satisfactory. He has a fractured pelvic bone. The accident occurred when the field was parading before the Apprentices’

Hack Handicap, the seventh race at the Ashburton County Racing Club's autumn meeting Skelton was carried from the birdcage on a stretcher and D. N. Hadfield was hurriedly weighed out to take the mount on Candida.
