R.S.A. OFFER TO SCOUTS
Use Of Jellicoe Hall Free
Provided no damage is caused, the Boy Scouts' Association will be permitted to use Jellicoe Hall in August at no cost. The scouts will rehearse for their annual “Gang Show.” In a letter to the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association, the Boy Scouts’ Association asked for the use of the hall on Monday evenings from May 22 to August 28. It said it would be unable to pay the full-scale charge of £6 6s a night. A recommendation that the scouts be charged £2 2s a night, made by a sub-com-mittee. was considered at a meeting of the Returned Services’ Association’s executive last evening. “Can they pay two guineas?” asked Mr G. D. Hattaway. “We should do all we can to assist these boys if the hall is not booked on those days. I think we should make it available at no charge and encourage them.” It was decided to charge the scouts £2 2s a night, but if there was no damage, to return the money in the form of a grant.
