The £ weakened in relation to North American currencies and several of the principal European currencies last week. The American dollar gained slightly on the Canadian. Altered telegraphic transfer exchange rates, as advised yesterday by the Bank of New South Wales, are as follows: New Zealand on— New York: Buying. 2 7899 dollars (compared with 2.7915 bn Mav 8); selling. 2.7583 dollars <2.75091. Montreal: 2.7557 dollars (2.7567): 2.7200 dollars <2.72101. Austria: 72.94 schillings (73.011: 71.46 schillings <71531 Belgium: 141.72 francs (148.13) 167.20 francs (137.60). Denmark: 19.60 crowns (19.59): 18.98 erowns (16.91). France: 13 79 francs (13 80): 13.42 francs (same). Italy: 1738 lire (same): 1702 lire <17031. Netherlands: 10 12 guilders (10.13) 9.87 guilders (same). Sweden: 14.52 crowns (14.53): 14.13 crowns <14.19). Switzerland: 12.10 francs (18.12): 11.86 francs (11.87). Western Germany: DMII.IO (11.11): DMIOB6 (10.871. Japan: 1015 yen (same); 991 yen (9M).
