COMMERCIAL Brighter Tone At Stock Exchange Opening

The week’s trading on New Zealand stock exchanges opened on a brighter note yesterday, when rises exceeded falls for both Australian and New Zealand shares. South Otago Freezing, South British Insurance, Northern Steam, Alliance Textiles, Early Bros, new, McKendrick new and Williamson Jeffery all made gains of 3d to 6d. Small losses were recorded by Ballins Industries, General Foods rights, N.Z. Newspapers and United Empire Box new. Colonial Sugar, which sold down to £6B 5s on Friday, made a good recovery to sell at £7l in Auckland. Mount Isa, up Is 6d at 59s 6d, made another good gain. Bums Philp lost 4s in two weeks to sell at 77s 9d. Oil Search were 4d down at 2s. Other movements in Australian shares were mainly upward.
