Rugby League AUSTRALIAN SIDE FOR N.Z.

20 Players And Two Managers

Last evening’s meeting of the Canterbury Rugby League received advice from the New Zealand Rugby League Council that the Australian touring team would comprise 20 players and two managers. The letter added that there would be newspaper correspondents travelling with the team but the numbier was not yet known. After a letter from the Linwood club, concerning the necessity of players in the under-age teams requiring birth certificates, it was decided to advise Linwood that the board could not accede to the club’s suggestion that players be only required to sign a form of their date of birth. Maori Players Mr L. R. Huston, a member of the Board of Control, told the meeting that while he was in Auckland he had conversations with Mr J. Karaka. Canterbury’s delegate on the New Zealand Maori Advisory Board. He said he had told Mr Karaka that some South Island leagues felt that their Maori players rarely appeared to be considered for New Zealand Maori teams when they played against overseas touring teams. Permission was granted the Papanui and Hornby clubs to 'play their annual Barr Memorial Cup match at Hornby on May 28.
