STEEPLES, SPRINT

T wo-Di vidend Races

The steeplechase and the open sprint at Ashburton today will be two-dividend races. The Wingatui jumper. Sydtrev, will not run in the Alford Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase; he will race at Invercargill next Saturday. The field was reduced to eight w’hen Barney was scratched last week and with Sydtrev not on hand there will be no more than seven runners. Arctic Sun, top-weight in the steeplechase, also has an engagement in the hurdles. He could run in both races, but that is unlikely if he manages to win the hurdles. Minglow was scratched yesterday for the Coldstream Handicap, the second leg of today's double, and that reduced the field to seven. Irrepressible having been scratched last Thursday.
