MUTTON BIRDS FOUND ON ASHBURTON COAST—Hundreds of dead mutton birds were found on the Wakanui beach, Ashburton, by two 13-year-old girls on Sunday. About 500 of the birds were scattered along the coast for about two miles. The girls, Ann Stewart, of Orari (left), and Pamela Bourke. of Christchurch, are seen with some of the dead birds yesterday after they had shown them to the Ashburton S.P.C.A. inspector (Mr J. R. Reeves).
