QUITE ABLE IN WORK AGAIN
Solid And Bright After Spell
The Riccarton trainer, C. G. Humphries, has made another start on Quite Able, one of the best of the young stayers unearthed this season. Quite Able has been brought back into work looking solid and bright after an autumn spell. The New Zealand Cup will be one of Quite Abie’s main missions for next season. He was the best of the South Island stayers in the New Zealand Cup last year, finishing third to Oreka and Port Wine. Two starts later he won the Dunedin Cup by a head from Great Sensation. They met again soon after in the Wellington Cup, and dominated the finish of a recordrun race. This time Great Sensation beat Quite Able by a head. The time of 3mih 17}sec for two miles was a record for New Zealand and Australia. Quite Able was only once worse than third in eight starts from the start of the season until he was spelled. His three firsts and four placings yielded £4490 in stakes. Humphries has also made another start with Hand Over, which was spelled after racing at Washdyke in December. Hand Over won the Otaio Plate at the last New Zealand Cup meeting.
