South Canterbury Wins Women’s Golf Tourney

TIMARU. May 13. In weather more suitable for duck shooting titan golf, the South Island section of the Russell Grace inter-pro-vincial womens golf tourney ended yesterday with a win for the South Canterbury A team, which maintained its unbeaten record throughout the three-day event. In the fourth round. South Canterbury A beat NelsonWest Coast-Marlborough and Canterbury, 4-2, for a total of 201 points. Otago was in second place, with 17J points, and Canterbury third, with 141 points. It was South Canterbury’s first win in the event. A highlight of the tourney was Miss Susan Grigg’s match with Otago’s Miss Pat Harrison, which was won by Miss Grigg, 1 up, after a close contest. After being 2 up at the turn. Miss Grigg lost the next three holes to give Miss Harrison a 1-up advantage. Miss Grigg won the thirteenth, and Miss Harrison the fourteenth. Two halved holes followed, with Mtss Grigg winning the seventeenth and eighteenth to give her the match. Final were: South Canterbury A 201 points: Otago 17|, Canterbury 141. South Canterbury B 14, Southland 13, Nelson-West Coast-Marlborough 10J. Fourth Round South Canterbury A beat Nelson-West Coast - Marlborough. 4-2: Otago halved with Canterbury, 3-3: Southland halved with South Canterbury B. 3-3. South Canterbury A v.
