Tension mounted when, with 12 minutes remaining and nine runs needed for victory. the Lancashire fast bowler. B. Statham was recalled to the bowling crease Statham let go a full toss at G. McKenzie who casually turned it to the square leg fence. Then C. Burge leg-glanced K. Higgs for 4 and the match was over. The first 50 took 62 minutes, but the second came after 28 minutes.
