Two Men Held In Custody
(N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) NICOSIA, May 14 Two men described as former Eoka fighters, one of them a newspaper editor, were yesterday remanded in custody pending further police inquiries into the murder of Peter Gray, a British architect shot in the north Cyprus holiday resort of Kyrenia on Friday. The men, referred to throughout as "suspects.” though not charged, were Nicos Sampson, editor of the Greek newspaper "Machi,” and Neopotolemos Georgiou. a mechanic. Each was remanded in custody for three days. The murdered man recently came to Cyprus to take up a new job. He was joined by his wife and two children less than 24 hours before he was shot. He had just parked his car outside a shop when the gunman fired from pointblank range. Mrs Gray rushed screaming from the shop and found her husband dead over the wheel. President M a k a r i os described the shooting as “a horrible crime.” and offered a £20,000 reward for the killer.
