Italian Group Wins Contract

May 13 A £l6 million contract for building the first stage of Ghana's enormous Volta river dam and hydro-electric scheme has been awarded to the Italian Impresit group, it was officially announced yesterday. The Impresit group, which built the Kariba dam in central Africa, won the Ghana contract in face of bids by British and American companies The Volta dam—expected to be built at an estimated total cost of £6O minionwill provide power for a huge aluminium industry.
