Sir Saville Garner, newlyappointed permanent Undersecretary of State for Commonwealth Relations in London. arrived in Auckland yesterday in the course of a familiarisation trip to Australia and New Zealand. Sir Saville Garner will go to Wellington for informal talks with the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) and other Ministers.—(P.A.) Mr S. M. Wilson, of Balcairn, was elected unopposed chairman of the agriculture section of North Canterbury Federated Farmers yesterday. He succeeds Mr R G Rainey, of Woodend. who had served for four years. Mr J. F. N. Twose. of Waikari, w-as elected vice-chair-man. Members of the Christchurch Metropolitan MilkBoard at their meeting yesterday stood in memory of Mr W J. Cowles, who died recently. Mr Cowles was a member of the board and a former chairman. Mr E. J. Godley has been appointed a member of the Marlborough Nassella Tussock Board. Mr C. W. Foster has been appointed a member of the Winchester Domain Board He replaces Mr D M. McKenzie. who has resigned. Mr S. M. Reynolds, Post Office regional engineer in Christchurch, was presen’ed with a binocular at a function held in his honour by the staff of the engineering branch yesterday afternoon. Mr Reynolds will leave Christchurch on Wednesday on promotion for the Post Office engineer - in - chief's office. Wellington, where he w-ill be a superintending engineer. The presentation was made by the divisional engineer (Mr D. N McFarlane). Messrs J. G. Carter F C Chappell. M. B. CreqLer T A. Guy C. W. A. Kyle. A. C. Loach, R. S Mayer. R. J. Roberts, and N H Smith have been appointed the lempleton Domain Board.
