U.S. Policy
Sir,—John Forster now asserts that it is the politics and not the politicians of the free nations that are “powercrazy.” It seems to me to be a distinction without a difference. Democracy is not a “much-bandied” word to the English-speaking peoples. It is just what the dictionary
says: government by the duly elected representatives of the people. Russia, on the other hand, has reverted to feudalism. The presentday “barons” take what they want and distribute what is left. John Forster would hate as much as anyone to be the puppet of ar. enemy dictator. Civilisations fall not because of confidence and plain-dealing but because of timidity and appeasement.— Yours, etc, T F SHAW Westport, May 11. 1961. '
