Australian Shares Firm At Close Of Trading

The week’s trading in Australian shares on New Zealand stock exchanges closed with the market very firm. Ten Australian issues sold yesterday at higher price* compared with five at lower prices. Mount Isa, rising from 56s to 58s ex dividend of 6d, made the best gain of the day among the Australians. I.C.LA.N.Z., down 3s 3d at 62s in first business since April 26, recorded the biggest fall. Fourteen rises to 10 falls were recorded in the New Zealand section. At 85s on their home market, Farmers Trading continued the rise which has added 5s to the shares in two weeks. John Bums, up 4s at 80s, also made a good gain. Buntings rights, which opened last week at Bs, fell further to 6s. Evening Star (down 2s 6d) and Lusteroid Holdings (down Is 6d) also fell sharply.
