ABERDEEN ANGUS Female Sale At Dannevirke “The Press” Special Service DANNEVIRKE, May 12. Only one South Island stud was represented at the New Zealand Aberdeen Angus Cattle Breeders' Association’s annual female sale in Dannevirke. That was Hickman Bros. (Blenheim), who sold a rising three-year-old heifer, Prunella of Taimate, for 300gns to an Auckland buyer. The lack of southern entries. particularly from the well-known stud of Roberts and Company (Middlemarch), was attributed to the high cost of flying the animals north. Nevertheless southern interests were represented. N. H. Gent, of Dunedin, paid 500gns for a rising three-year-old from the F. D. Shaw Stud (Masterton), and N. Shaw (Invercargill) is understood to have bought another heifer from the wellknown Tautane Stud in a private transaction. Although the rising three-year heifers sold steadily buyers from throughout New Zealand showed little interest in 19 cows. Only three were sold at auction today. Thirty-one head sold at an average of 269gns compared with 33 at 220gns last year. Premier award at the annual show which precedes the sale, the Brackenfield Rosebowl, was won by Donald Grant and Company's Genista 52nd of Mangatoro. Genista 52nd was later sold at auction for lOOOgns. going to W. H. Barkla (Hawera). Last year’s u.sebowl winner, a South Island entry, Eulima 10th of Ladbrook, fetched 1150gns, a record for the sale. The owners were Roberts and Company of Middlemarch.
