LOAN 80 P.C. SUBSCRIBED
North Canterbury Hospital Board
The £150.000 fifth issue of the North Canterbury Hospital Board's fourteenth loan was now more than 80 per cent, subscribed, the chairman of the board (Dr. L. C. L. Averill) said on Thursday. “The progress of the current loan is most gratifying and stimulating to all connected with the work of the board.” Dr. Averill said. The sum of £116.490 had already been received and £4200 booked. Of the £29,310 still unsubscribed, all except £750 matured in 1971. The £750 was for a nine-year-term. maturing on April 30. 1970. “The purpose of the fourteenth loan was to start on what will develop into the rebuilding of the Christchurch Hospital.” added Dr. Averill. This section was for the transfer of the boilerhouse and the erection of a new house and boilers on the manse site.
Successive boards have appreciated the need for the removal of the present hospital chimney, and it is most gratifying that a beginning will be made before very long in removing this nuisance and eyesore. “I am glad to say that every modern aid to arrest the deposition of grit is in the specifications for the new boilers and chimney. “We value the help of the
