TELEVISION INTERFERENCE
Radio Regulations Modified
Interference with television reception is the subject of the Radio (Television) Interference Notice (1961) which modifies the provisions of the Rad’o Interference Regulations (1958) to apply to television. The notice is now available at the Post Office. The notice defines the maximum noise voltage nr electric field generation allowable to electrical appliances and other equipment, high-frequency apparatus, and the ignition systems of internal combustion engines. Separate sets of figures are specified for frequency Band I (44 to 88 megacycles a second) and Band 111 (174 to 216 megacycles a second). Channel 3. Christchurch, is on 61 to 68 megacycles in Band The notice will only apply in districts where television signals exceed certain defined strengths, which vary according to' the frequency bands. It comes into force on April 6. 1962, 12 months after notification in the Gazette. Radio Amendment Persons who complain of interference with their radio reception cannot in future expect help from radio inspectors unless their own receivers are free from trouble and their aerial svstem is regarded as suitable by the inspectors, according to Amendment number one to the Radio Interference Regulations.
Another change brought about bj’ the amendment gives a seat each on the Radio Interference Advisory Committee to the New Zealand Electrical Wholesalers’ Federation and the New Zealand Electrical Contractors’ Federation. Their representatives will replace the nominee of the New Zealand Electrical Federation, which has been wound up.
