CHRYSANTHEMUM SOCIETY

Annual Show Held

An exhibit of Violet Queen chrysanthemums was the main attraotion at the Canterbury Chrysanthemum Society's annual show which was judged yesterday. L. Clark, who exhibited these blooms, said that it was the first scented chrysanthemum in New Zealand, but “we may eventually have lots of them." The seeds were imported from England, he said.

Another attraction was the Green Goddess variety—a light-green chrysanthemum, two blooms of which were exhibited by A. L. Mclvor. The green chrysanthemum is also new to New Zealand, and. as with the Violet Queen, the seeds were imported.

The largest number of blooms exhibited was 22, entered by Mr Clark. The total number of entries was 180.

The judges were Mr L. E. Rendall (blooms) and Mrs C. Ge-Roi (decorative).

Special awards, with the variety of chrysanthemum ’"own in parentheses, were Blue ribbon, L. Clark (Jessie Habfoodi: W. H. Cropp Challenge Cup. M. Gordon: H. L. Booth Challenge Cup, M. Gordon; Ellen Crosier Challenge LfoP. J- G. Head: L. A. L. Davies Challenge Cup. Mrs W. R. Green; J. H. ditchings Challenge Cup, L. Clark; L. A. L. Davies special prize for premier bloom. L. Clark; National Society’s bronze medal for most outstanding exhibit. L. Clark; National Chrysanthemum Society's certificates of merit: decorative. F. A. Judkins; anemone-centered. Mrs W. R. Green.
