Th« reigning Canterbury Chess Club champion, R. D Clarke, preserved his unbeaten record In the current senior championship series when he drew with J. A. Hunter and beat R. M. Broadbent this

games. Clarke Is well ahead of the rest of the senior field. Tn the intermediate championship, an Interesting position is developing. With the end of the series in sight, four players are still well In the running for victory. R. Mitchell is ahead at the moment with eight points, half a point ahead of N. M. Cooper, but Mitchel] has played 10 games of the total of 12 and Cooper has only played nine games. R. N Weir has seven points out of eight possible, and C. W Taylor, with five points out of seven, is in a strong position in at least one adjourned game. He may also pick up half a point if, as seems possible, A. S. Campbell’s games are cancelled through non-com pletlon of the tournament. Miss A. Wellard-King has seven points, but has completed her games. Results of games completed this week are:—
