VIENTIANE, May 11. Prince Eckarath Souvanarath, aide-de-camp to the strong man of Laos, the Defence Minister (General Phoumi Nosovan), was shot and killed late last night, informed sources said today, the Associated Press reported.
Prince Eckarath was a major and a nephew of both the former neutralist Prime Minister, Prince Souvanna Phouma and the Pathet Lao leader, Prince Souphanouvong. He was a director of planning for the Ministry of Defence.
He was said to be driving out on the road toward the airport when the car was stopped and he was shot.
