Major Yuri Gagarin, the Soviet spaceman, said a vivid purple light appeared on the shuttered portholes of his spaceship, indicating the tremendous temperature outside. as he descended to earth, according to Moscow Radio. He also revealed that during his flight he saw African rivers and Africa’s southern coast on approaching the Continent. The radio said that Major Gagarin described his reentry to men of the Moscow military district But it gave no date of his talk. It was reported earlier that he addressed the Moscow garrison on May 4. "My ability to work was in no way upset during the
whole of the flight. I felt no tiredness.” Major Gagarin was reported to have said. "The portholes were shuttered. but by the reflections on the portholes I could deduce that the temperature outside the ship was tremendous.
