WAR MEMORIAL NEAR ATHENS UNVEILED BY THE DUKE OF GLOUCESTER.—These eight marble tablets in the Phaleron war cemetery bear the names of 2900 Commonwealth soldiers, including 481 New Zealanders, who died 28 years ago in Greece and the Greek islands and who have no known graves. The memorial was built by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and unveiled yesterday by the Duke of Gloucester. Beyond the memorial, on a platform overlooking the cemetery where more than 2000 Commonwealth soldiers are interred, is the Cross of Sacrifice.
