The Modern Jazz Quartet remains appreciated, year after year, as music of uncommon beauty, substances and classic form. No musical group in the worlq has become so widely acclaimed as being so permanently valuable to contribution and to the history of fine music as the music from the Modem Jazz Quartet. It is one of the first pure concert ensembles in jazz. The unique style with which the group disciplines itself has placed it as a wonderful jazz personality deep in the roots of traditional jazz from which jazz grew. Again Harry M. Miller brings to New Zealand* artists among the greatest in this world today. Not only was the Quartet winner again of America’s famous “Down Beat" poU ns a leading combo but every member of the group has been among the highest individual poll winners for the last six years. The Modern Jazz Quartet have been brought direct to New Zealand from America and will return to New York immediately after their concerts in this country. Their distinct sound and individual stylistic approach an uses intense interest and enthusiastic following wherever thev perform. They have presented long European tours as no other group have ever presented before them, and gain in e’ch fantastic international prestige The solid musical achievement of this highly distinguished group has been summed up in a recent book bv the "New York Times” critic. John S. Wilson: "No body of recorded work holds tip as well as the Modern tazr Quartet."
