GATES AT REHUA HOSTEL

Opening On June 11

The new palisade gates at the Rehua Maori Boys’ Hostel in Springfield road will be opened by the Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr Hanan) on the afternoon ot June 11.

■Riis was announced yesterday by the acting superintendent of the Methidist Central Mission in Christchurch (Mr J. E. Colechin). Prepared by the Maori carver. Mr Henare Toka, one of those who worked on the carvings for the meeting house, the gates have been planned to recapture the appearance of the old Maori stoekades. Built of manuka, a hard timber, the fence has nearly one dozen posts. The venture was made possible by the Christchurch Rotary Club which gave £250 for the purpose.
