DIFFICULTIES OF CHURCH UNION
Presbytery’s View
Of Draft
“If church union is to go forward there has got to be a considerable amount of trust between the various denominations, and we must be prepared to accept the inevitable changes which will accompany this.” said the Rev. M. W. Wilson, convener of the Church Union Committee of the Christchurch Presbytery, at a meetng of the Presbytery. Explaining the proposed draft basis of church union (published earlier this year by the Joint Standing Committee on Church Union) Mr Wilson outlined the differences and consequent tensions likely to arise between the various Protestant denominations seeking incorporation.
Recognising the differences it was essential that the church discovered that the problems and tensions were “worth putting up” with for the greater values inherent in the acquisition of the union.
