Winter Tennis
rpHE Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association has this year obtained the best response it has had for many years to its call for entries for a winter competition. Twelve teams are taking part Last year there were nine teams, and although Beckenham II has dropped out this year there are four new teams entered Barrington 11, Redcliffs. Public Hospital and Edgeware. The teams which have remained in are Beckenham, Avonside I. Avonside H, University I,
University n, North Linwood, Barrington I and South Christchurch. South Christchurch was not in the first draw which was made with 11 teams, but it has since entered and been accepted, thus obviating the bye. Last year's competition had a very close finish. After two rounds of the competition, Beckenham I and North Linwood were equal in points and had to play oft. In the play-off, each team won three matches, each won eight sets but Beckenham won on games by 81 to 78.
