Polio Vaccines
Poliomyelitis injections of Salk vaccine would continue to be given for several months at least, even if there was an early change of Health Department policy in favour of the oral Sabin vaccine. the Medical Officer of Health in Christchurch (Dr. L. F. Jepson) said yesterday. This was because the new vaccine would have to be ordered, and some time would elapse before it came to hand, Dr. Jepson said. The Salk vaccine was quite satisfactory as a means of immunisation, its main disadvantage compared with the Sabin vaccine being in the way it was administered. The Epidemiological Advisory Committee of the Health Department recently recom. mended a change to the Sabin vaccine.
