Magistrates Court Prohibited Driver Tried To Elude Traffic Officer
After a complaint that a disqualified driver was driving a car from his home in Nyoli street, Papanui, on March 23, a traffic officer went to the street and kept watch for the driver, Chief Patrol Officer J. Brown told Mr A. P. Blair, S.M., in the Magistrate'* Court yesterday. Appearing before the Court was Arthur John Warrington, a butcher, on a charge of driving while he was disqualified. He pleaded guilty. The Magistrate adjourned the case until Friday for a probation officer's report and sentence. Warrington appeared on summons. At 6.25 p.m. Warrington’s car was seen to turn into Nyoli street by Traffic Officer E. McJarrow. who then drove his van across the entrance to Warrington's home, said Chief Patrol Officer Brown. When the defendant saw the traffic officer he increased speed, drove to the end of the street, and turned ieft down a rough grass track which was another-way of entering the house, he said. Traffic Officer McJarrowthen chased Warrington to the house, calling out to him to stop. At the house the door was opened by Mrs Warrington, who after having a look inside, said that her husband was not home. Chief Patrol Officer Brown said. On going to the front of the house Traffic Officer McJarrow noticed a bedroom window open, and saw the defendant running into long grass in an empty section at the back of the house. A search was made of the section by the traffic officer, but no-one was found. Later the same day Traffic Officer McJarrow. in company with a constab’e, returned to the house and found Warrington at home.
