Result Of Fashion Project
Two enterprising form two pupils from Mayfield School. Mid - Canterbury, recently turned a school project into an exciting venture that won them a trip to Christchurch by chartered plane. They are Beverley Edmund and Jean Stuart, who have almost completed a nroject of fashions from 1837 to 1960 Months of work—copyins diagrams and script from books and magazines—were completed yesterday when they spent the day in Christchurch as the guests of two fashion houses. Accompanied by Bever. ley’s aunt. Mrs J. Elms, and Jean’s mother. Mrs J. Stuart, the girls spent the morning at a city fashion house, where their hostess, Mrs J. Keats, initiated them into the mysteries of selling. Their customers were Mrs Stuart and Mrs Elms, who were each sold two blouses. The young saleswomen were each presented with a blouse, by Mrs Keats. After lunch at a leading city restaurant, they were shown over a clothing factory, where they saw topfashion garments being made. They had afternoon tea at Christchurch Airport before their take-off in the tiny plane. Although the girls have no definite ideas on making a career of fashion, it has aroused a keen interest in the subject, and they may extend their project to in. elude current and forthcoming fashions. Asked what they thought of their day in the city, they replied: “It’s all been wonderful.”
