Competitions For Brass Bands
The annual competitions for junior solos and quartets were held in the bandroom of the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Brigade Band by the Canterbury Provincial Brass Bands’ Association. The judge was Mr J. Rafferty, the supervisor was Mr L. T. Loversidge, and the official accompanist was Mrs RC. Miller. Results were:— Under 13 years, slow melody only: N. Grenfell (cornet), Rangiora Brass Band (71 points), 1; L. Ballantyne (cornet), Fire Brigade (69), 2; B. McFarlane (cornet), Rangiora (68), 3. Under 15 years: J. Dougall (trombone), Woolston Auxiliary (81 points), 1; J. Bartlett (cornet), Derry's (78), 2; J. Harker (carnet), Woolston Auxiliary (77). 3. Under 17 years: V. Brown (bass trombone), Lyttelton Marine (87 points), 1; R. Thorne (soprano cornet). Woolston Auxiliary (85>, 2; R. Harris <B flat bass), Addington Workshops, and K. Pruden (euphonium), Derry’s (84 (equal), 3. Under 19 years: R. Adams (trombone), Addington Workshops (91 points). 1; T. Bremner (cornet), Woolston (90), 2. Quartets: Derry's Brass Band, V. A. G. Aldridge (85 points). I; Addington Workshops Brass Band. M. Waters (83), 2.
