TANKERS IN PORT
Five In Six Days
Five large tankers have used the oil berth at Lyttelton . since Thursday morning. Since the arrival of the 11,152-ton Norwegian tanker Benoil, on Thursday, there has been almost continuous activity at the petroleum terminal. Hard on the heels of the Benoil’s departure at 7 a.m on Friday came the British tanker, Stanvac Sydney which had been anchored off the heads awaiting for a berth. When it sailed the following day, its berth was filled by the Tibia which discharged 287.000 gallons of aviation turbine fuel, 64.000 gallons of mineral turpentine and 778.000 gallons of motor spirit, from Singapore. The Tibia sailed on Sunday and the berth was occupied again, less than one hour and a-half later by the Los Hermanns. At present the Stanvac Bangkok is at the wharf. It will probably leave early this morning. Five million gallons of petroleum products have been pumped ashore at Lyttelton by the five tankers. The sudden week-end activity has meant long hours of work for oil company employees.'
