PARKING SIGNS

Problems At Park

The Canterbury Rugby Union will ask the City Council’s traffic department to meet members of the union’s executive to discuss parking signs outside Rugby Park. A letter from the Traffic Superintendent (V G. P. Kellar) was received at the union’s meeting last evening. Mr Kellar said that whereas the union stated that it appeared that patrons ouside Rugby Park were not seeing the signs and were being fined he eould give the assurance that not one single individual had been prosecuted and fined for such illegal parking. Mr Kellar said that the appropriate class D no-park-ing signs were erected and it was not necessary to place such markings on the roadway in addition to the erected signs. Mr R. W. Thomas said that the department would be well advised to consider its patrol officers. There was definitely some doubt about the markings. Last Saturday at least seven or eight cars had to be moved. “I don’t know if anyone has been prosecuted, but I do know that some have been given tickets,” he said. On the recommendation of Mr Thomas it was decided to write to the traffic department and request that discussions be held with mem. bers of the union on the signs outside Rugby Park.
